My Grand Plan!

Broadway Cabaret Camp

Performers who are 12-18 years old are invited to spend two weeks preparing Cabaret Acts performing a variety of classic and contemporary songs from popular Broadway shows. Participants will learn vocal techniques that suit their voice as well as how to present with confidence and tell powerful and fun stories through song and movement.

Performers will be featured in a variety of ways in the final Cabaret performance with solo moments in duets/trios /quartets, small and full company ensemble numbers. This is a “no audition” opportunity. Performers will work with directors on familiar pieces the first day to determine vocal ranges and strengths. They will then receive instruction from the Directors on repertoire to highlight their unique talents and foster individual growth. This educational theatre experience will be further enhanced by coaching provided by a visiting professional actor during one of the workshop days just like on “The Voice!”

Beckie Menzie

An award-winning concert artist, Beckie has appeared at some of the nation’s top nightclubs and concert venues including the legendary Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Birdland in New York, Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, The Ravinia Festival and Park West, as well as at concert halls and art series across the country.

Hailed by Chicago’s WGN Radio as “one of the city’s finest cabaret performers,” Beckie is a three time winner of Chicago’s After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist. A staple of the Windy City music scene, Beckie has performed at Davenports, The Auditorium Theatre, The Ravinia Festival and Feinstein’s at The Carmichael.

As one of cabaret’s most in demand entertainers, Beckie was featured in Michael Feinstein’s “Now & Then” Series for her Carnegie Hall debut. She has been a featured performer at many of the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Conventions in New York, The Hamptons and in Chicago, as well as many performances for the Chicago Humanities Festival, where she has served as a performer, a director and musical director.

Beckie has two acclaimed solo CD’s, Real Emotional Girl and Heart & Soul, that have received national airplay. Both are an eclectic mix of classic ballads, standard jazz favorites as well as her own original songs. Cabaret Scenes Magazine called Real Emotional Girl “one of the year’s finest recordings.” Beckie is also an award-winning songwriter.

She performs regularly with Tom Michael, and as a duo they are recipients of the After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist. Their award-winning duo CD Better Two-gether showcases their unique “2 Singers‚ Äì 1 Voice” duo style that has made them what the Chicago Tribune calls "one of the most compelling duos in cabaret." Their acclaimed shows have consistently been named among the year’s best by After Dark Chicago and New York’s Cabaret Scenes Magazine.

Lending her musical stylings and theatrical skills to Chicago area theatres, Beckie is a sought-after musical director.

From swing to torch songs, Beckie’s interpretive style, rich smoky voice and inventive piano stylings rank her among the best nightclub entertainers in the country. Hers is a talent that not only warms but breaks your heart.
